Artist statement

Strongly influenced by the eryngium flower and aquamarine crystal because they both symbolise independence. I have chosen to make a blazer because in my opinion that is what I would envision an independent woman would wear as well as something structured which is why I chose the corset top with boning, which is also influenced by the structure of the aquamarine crystal. 'The Bold Type' which influenced the magazine posters and the blazer as well.

Materials - scuba crepe fabric, polyester tread, Lino with Lino cutters and ink and interfacing, photo paper.

Interview

Courtney

What was the most challenging thing you came across?

Independently figuring out how to make a garment and how to understand the pattern instructions.

What do you like about your work?

I really like the colour theme and how I’ve incorporated the Eryngium flower as a sign of independence.

How would you describe your project to someone who’s never seen it before?

It’s strongly influenced by the eryngium flower as well as having a strong independent woman vibe! (What I envision an independent woman would wear in my opinion)
